Six thousand people a day have left Libya to head toward Tunisia due to the week-long fighting, which is the worse the country has seen since the civil war in 2011. Over 100 people have been killed, 400 wounded, and much of the airport has been destroyed. Local commanders, Islamist ideologies and Islamist politicians are all fighting for control of the government. Tunisian Foreign Minister Monji Hamdi said Tunisia cannot absorb large numbers of refugees and warned his government could close the border. “Our absolute priority is the security and stability of Tunisia and we will close the border if necessary,” he warned.
