Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) has reached the U.S. via a health-care provider that recently traveled to Saudi Arabia for business. The person flew from Riyadh to London, and from London to Chicago, where they took a bus to Indiana. They are currently in an Indiana hospital, isolated and in stable condition. The CDC and Indiana State Department of Health are conducting a joint investigation. Until the Indiana report of MERS-CoV, all 262 cases of the coronavirus confirmed by the World Health Organization have been outside the U.S., and isolated to 12 countries, most around the Arabian Peninsula. Doctors say that the MERS-CoV does not carry the threat for a potential pandemic as of now.
