Stockholm has officially dropped out of the race to host the 2022 Winter Olympics after the city council refused to back the bid due to financial reasons. Stockholm hosted the Summer Games in 1912 had become the first city to hold both the Summer and Winter Olympic bids. There are five cities left in contention of the bids: Almaty, Kazakhstan; Bejing; Krakow, Poland; Lviv, Ukraine; and Oslo, Norway. The bids were submitted in November to the International Olympic Committee and the host city will be selected in 2015.
