NFL umpire suspended for comments made to Redskins player

On Friday, the NFL announced that umpire Roy Ellison will be suspended for making a “profane and derogatory” comment to Redskins tackle Trent Williams during the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. “NFL game officials are expected to avoid personal confrontations with players and be respectful of players and coaches at all times,” the league said in a statement. “The NFL-NFLRA Collective Bargaining Agreement states that ‘at no time will a Game Official engage in any conduct which adversely affects or reflects on the NFL or which results in the impairment of public confidence in the honest and orderly conduct of League games or the integrity or good character of its Game Officials.'”

Redskins player Kory Lichtensteiger commented to USA Today: “I can definitely vouch that some things were said. I heard the ref say some very disparaging things, including the F-bomb.”
