NFL suspends Meriweather for two games

Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather is being penalized for two hits in Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. ESPN’s Andrew Brandt reported on twitter: NFL suspends Brandon Meriweather two games for repeat violations of safety rules.  At $1.2 million salary, will cost him $141,000.

The Redskins won the game against the bears 41-45, and the hits occurred in the second half; one of wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and one on Brandon Marshall. Meriweather made helmet-to-helmet contact with Jeffery, which led to a call of a personal foul. Then Meriweather threw his arms into Marshall’s head later in the game.

As reported in the Chicago Tribune, Marshall made some comments on what would be a proper punishment for Meriweather: “I respect the league trying to better our game and guys like that, maybe he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely. I understand. I get it. I was one of those guys. I played defense growing up. I was a headhunter. Even sometimes on the offensive side, I played that way. But with rules in place, you’ve gotta respect it.”
