Austin Collie signs with Patriots

The New England Patriots have signed wide receiver Austin Collie four weeks into the season. The addition comes after the Patriots lost several players due to injury. Wide receiver Danny Amendola was out for three games due to a groin injury, and receivers Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson were also injured this week.

Some are questioning the choice to sign Collie given his own history of injuries. He has missed 22 of 48 games over the past three years, with a total of four concussions over the course of his career and a recent ruptured patella tendon.

In an interview with Jim Corbett of USA Today, Collie even said that he would sign a waiver promising not to pursue legal action against the team if he got another concussion. “I’ll sign a waiver, all right?” Collie said. “They’re not going to have to worry about me suing. I’ll hold myself to be accountable.”

Right now though, Collie is serving as an insurance policy for the Patriots while Amendola is injured. However, if he does well, he may add another spot to help the patriots with their offense.
