O’Malley names new information technology head

Governor Martin O’Malley has named a new secretary of the Maryland Department of Information Technology.

On Thursday O’Malley announced that Isabel FitzGerald will lead the department.

Since 2012, FitzGerald has been the deputy secretary for operations at the Maryland Department of Human Resources.

The information technology department purchases and manages all telecommunication devices used by state agencies.

FitzGerald will be replacing Elliot Schlanger, who will now lead the O’Malley administration’s cybersecurity efforts as Maryland’s director of cybersecurity.
