Malala Yousafzai receives letter from Taliban

Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani girl shot in the head last year while returning home from school, received a letter allegedly from a Taliban official explaining that she was targeted for criticizing the militant group. He said, “The Taliban believe you were intentionally writing against them and running a smear campaign to malign their effort to establish an Islamic system in (the) Swat Valley, and your writings were provocative.” The letter was released by a member of Pakistan intelligence.

Malala was attacked by gunmen when she was 15 after they jumped on her school bus, yelling her name. After other students identified her, she was shot in the head. Now 16, she recently spoke at the United Nations, pleading for children to have the right to go to school.
