On Saturday, the Washington community remembered Howard University student Omar Skyes, who was shot and killed during a street robbery on the fourth of July. The 22-year-old was walking near campus on Thursday night with a friend, who was beaten, but survived. Police believe the attack was random.
The victim’s friends were in disbelief as they gathered near the Founder’s Liberty bell at 9 p.m. Member’s of Sykes fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, mourned their brother. Sykes was a junior marketing major, who was remembered for his giving nature.
Police found Sykes late on July fourth with multiple gun shot wounds to the chest. Sykes had turned 22 a week ago.
