New domains planned to be released this year

This year, the internet’s naming system is going to be expanded to include hundreds of new domains. Some of the possible new domains include .book, .google, and .nyc. This is the biggest expansion of the internet’s naming system as well as the first large expansion the system has had for over a decade.

The group behind the changes is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which made the decision to expand the amount of domain names. A year later, they revealed a list of about 2,000 proposals. Supporters of the expansion hope the new system will allow users to better market themselves as well as prove their legitimacy to website visitors wary of spam.
