Virginia high schools top national averages for retention and time-to-completion rates

Virginia high schools have numbers above the national average for retention rates and four-year completion rates, and their numbers are only improving. U.S. Department of Education reported that about 81% of high schoolers in Virginia who graduated in 2010, completed diploma requirements in the standard four years. This percentage is up 3% from the class of 2009, and tops the national average as well.

With a drop-out rate of about 2% in the 2009-2010 school year, Virginia ranks above the national average of about 3%, and improved .5% from the year before.
