After a car break-in in November, Sentara Healthcare and their contractor, Omnicell Inc. are notifying customers of a potential security breach. Around 56,000 patients in Virginia could be affected after a device containing some personal information was stolen out of an employee’s car. Omnicell reports that although the device may have held information on medications dispensed during hospital stays and patient demographic information, it did not contain social security numbers, insurance or financial information.
Patients treated between Oct. 18 and Nov. 9 at several hospitals and out-patient care centers near Hampton Roads could be affected.
