Education Week, a prominent education publication, ranked Maryland public schools as the first in the nation. It is the fourth year in a row Maryland schools have received the honor. The state received a B+ in a report which analyzes education policies and student achievement. Following were Massachusetts, New York and Virginia with a B average. The District of Columbia received a C-.

Maryland “is an example of an all-around strong performer,” according to Chris Swanson, the vice president of editorial projects. Maryland ranked highest in early education, preparing students for college and jobs after graduation.
