Iran fires missile in test exercises

Iran fired test missiles Sunday and Monday as part of naval training exercises in the Strait of Hormuz. According to state-run media, the test was a success, with the missile hitting its intended targets. The exercises continue tests begun on December 24. Western diplomats have cited the attempts as evidence of Iran’s volatility.

“We want to underline that the development by Iran of a missile program is a source of great concern to the international community,” The French Foreign Ministry said Monday. Under a U.N. Security Council agreement, Iran is prohibited from pursuing ballistics research capable of delivering a nuclear warhead.  The Strait of Hormuz is strategic for the oil shipping conducted in its waters.
