The parents of the unarmed black teenager, Mike Brown, shot to death by white police officer Darren Wilson on August 9, testified before a U.N. committee Tuesday. The hearing took place behind closed doors, and was organized in conjunction with HandsUpUnited, the Organization for Black Struggle and Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment. Brown’s mother Lesley McSpadden explained that they “need the world to know what’s going on in Ferguson, and we need justice,” so they brought it to the U.N. A statement will be read that claims that Brown’s killing and the police response to the ensuing public protests “represent violations of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment,” according to CNN.
