US and Russian leaders discuss Syria

As world leaders met in Ireland on Tuesday to discuss the civil war in Syria, President Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin disagreed on which side deserve support, the Syrian government or rebels. President Obama continues to support his decision to arm Syrian rebels, while President Putin refuses to stop selling weapons to Syrian President Bashar Assad. The group of eight economic powers plan to issue a joint statement about their decision on Tuesday.

While other leaders have supported Obama in the debate with Putin, he has still struggled to find leaders to join him in sending weapons to the Syrian rebels. After 93,000 people were killed in the civil war in Syria, the conflict was declared an intractable issue in the G-8 summit.
