Turkish parliament authorizes troops to enter Syria

The Turkish parliament has agreed that the military will be permitted to enterSyriashould the government deem it necessary. This decision has come in the wake of increasing exchange of Syrian and Turkish artillery fire across the border.

“The Turkish government justifies action saying that Assad has done some bad things, but Assad has been doing terrible things for years now,” said a young engineer fromAnkarain an interview with BBC, “politics have changed inTurkeyover the last three years. Traditionally Turkish politics depended on peace but this has changed after recent problems withIsrael,Iraqand nowSyria. Prime Minister Erdogan did wrong by involving us in this matter.”

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu insists that intervention inSyriais worth the risk, but rejects the idea that doing so would be an act of war, “If you do not take certain decisions today for the women, children escaping from these attacks,” the Foreign Minister said, “then we will be facing more risks in the future.” Davutoglu is advocating that Turkish troops enter Syria and establish a safe zone in the northern region for the Syrian displaced persons.Turkeyhas already absorbed more than 100,000 Syrian refugees, the majority of which are living in refugee camps.
