Syrian government takes over city

The Syrian government took over the city of Qusayr on Wednesday after almost seven weeks of fighting. Control of city is considered crucial because of its location on the border between Syria and Lebanon. A TV network run by the Syrian government said the assault made by the government’s forces on the city “led to the annihilation of a number of terrorists.”

According to one radical group, the army was able to succeed in their attack through the assistance of Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite militia. 11 fighters were killed within the government forces as well as an unreported number of Hezbollah fighters. The Syrian rebels responded with a statement released by the Homs Revolution News, which said “Yes, dear brethren, this is a battle that we lost, but the war is not over yet.”
