Syria truce lasts about 4 hours

An informal ceasefire between the Syrian Free Army and Syrian armed forces was scheduled to begin October 26 at 4:00 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). Each party agreed to adhere to the four day long ceasefire in observance of the Muslim holiday Eid al Adha on the condition the other side did not attack them within that time period. However, just four hours after the scheduled start time, a car bomb exploded in Syria’s capital city of Damascus. It is not yet clear who was responsible for the attack. Government opposition activists are saying the bomb appeared to target a civilian section of the city where some have shown support for the Free Army and protesters. Syrian state television is blaming the attack on “terrorists.” According to Syrian state media, the explosion killed 5 people and wounded 30 others. Fighting resumed across the country and, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, by the day’s evening 60 people were dead as a result of the violence.
