Scientists at CERN may have broken speed of light barrier

Scientists in Switzerland may have measured particles traveling faster than light. The physicists sent neutrinos underground across a distance of 730 kilometers between Switzerland and Italy, and are saying those particles arrived a fraction of a second sooner than they should have. Scientists have been ruling out calculation errors. If true, the finding could revolutionize physics.

Einstein’s theory of relativity depends upon the idea that the speed of light is an insurmountable limit. Before the new finding can be validated, similar experiments would need to be independently conducted, most likely by teams in the United States or Japan.
