President Barack Obama gave a speech to the U.N. at about 11:30 a.m. urging once again that all nations participate in an immediate concerted response to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. He explained that the U.S. will “continue to lead but this has to be a priority for everyone else.” Obama also called out to the health workers and other forces already working in the area, saying, “we are working urgently to get you the help you need. We will not stop, we will not relent, until we get this epidemic stopped once and for all.” Overall, the message of the speech was to impart the urgency of the situation and encourage swift decisive action by the U.N. and its member states. “If we move fast, even imperfectly, that could mean the difference between 10,000, 20,000, 30,000 and 100,000, 200,000 deaths. Everybody’s got to move fast in order to make a difference,” said Obama.
