North and South Korean government hold talks

Government officials from North and South Korea held talks on Sunday for the first time in many years. South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported the talks occurring in Panmunjom, a village on the border between the two countries. The talks began a few days before an inter-Korean ministerial meeting scheduled to occur on Wednesday.

High tensions have existed between the countries in recent months, starting when North Korea launched a long-range rocket in December. Tensions increased further when North Korea held a nuclear test underground.
