French tabloid publishes offensive cartoon of Mohammed

A French tabloid published a satiric cartoon of the prophet Mohammed, which caused the French government to shut down embassies and schools in twenty countries. Many people in France are wondering how far freedom of speech should be allowed to go because of the cartoon. “I call on all those, especially those who rightly invoke the right of freedom of speech, to also act responsibly. The one who now puts more oil on the fire on purpose, with obvious effect, is not the greatest thinker” the French Prime Minister said.

The French Ministry told it’s criticizes in the Middle East to travel with caution. The editor of the cartoon has little remorse, saying that he lives under French law and free speech. The publisher of the cartoon is known in France as satirizing radical Islam and the building where the magazine is published was bombed last year. The editor and chief is under police protection. It’s unclear if new protests will erupt from the cartoon.
