Former Egyptian leader in ‘full coma,’ government says

According to a spokesman from the Egyptian Interior Ministry, former leader Hosni Mubarak was in a full coma on Monday. Spokesman Alaa Mahmoud said, “Mubarak entered today into full coma. His two sons Gamal and Alaa submitted a request to the prison authority to move beside him and it has been accepted. His health has been deteriorating since the verdict, with high blood pressure, problems breathing, and irregular heartbeat.”

Last week, Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison. He and his former interior minister were found guilty on charges of complicity in the killing of protestors. The judge ruled that although there was no evidence Mubarak ordered the shooting of protestors by police, he was guilty because he and his interior minister did nothing to stop the fatalities. Mahmoud said Mubarak’s lawyer has submitted a request that he be moved from prison to a private hospital.
