Egypt president issues pardon for revolutionaries

President Mohammed Morsi has issued formal pardons for revolutionaries put in prison during the eighteen day uprising that ultimately unseated Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak. The statement reads that amnesty will be granted to prisoners, both convicted and awaiting trial, who were jailed for deeds “committed with the aim of supporting the revolution” and were imprisoned between January 25 2011 and June 30 2012. The mandate will also require that the names of the released prisoners be documented and released to the public. The only ones who will not recieve this amnesty are those convicted or suspected of murder. So far this pardon has led to the release of hundreds of revolutionaries, though hundreds more still wait behind bars for their freedom.
