Blasts in Nigerian market claim 118 lives

In the central Nigerian city of Jos, a pair of blasts set claimed the lives of at least 118 people, however, the death toll is expected to rise. The Terminus Market was engulfed in flames following the blasts that occurred approximately thirty minutes apart. The attacks are, for now, being considered acts of terrorism, although no groups have yet claimed responsibility. The first blast is was the result of a suicide car bombing, while the second one came from an improvised explosive device. A statement from the Nigerian government was released, reading: “President Jonathan assures all Nigerians that government remains fully committed to winning the war against terror, and this administration will not be cowed by the atrocities of enemies of human progress and civilization.”
