Will there be an soda ban in DC

0

After bans on large-sized sugary drinks in New York City, D.C. voters face similar arguments in upcoming elections. Incumbents like Michael Brown and Mayor Vincent Gray have both stated that they will vote for limitations to sugary sodas in the district, news that pleases councilwomen Mary Cheh (D-ward 3) who believes that a tax on sodas will improve national health standards, especially in public schools.

Other councilmembers have spoken in support of healthy food operatives in the district, but ave fallen short of endorsing a ban on sodas and other sugary drinks. They argue that it is not that government;s place to interfere on personal health decisions.
