A 54-year-old man in a motorized wheelchair was rescued after he fell onto the Metro system tracks at the U Street Station in Northwest Tuesday afternoon. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. at Green and Yellow line station. It is not entirely clear what caused him to drive onto the tracks. The man drove his wheelchair off the side of the platform, and was motionless between the tracks after falling. He was rescued by two good Samaritans who were on the platform, retrieved his wheelchair and immediately alerted Metro attendants, according to surveillance footage. Metro Spokeswoman Morgan Dye stated that the man sustained a bloody lip after the fall and was later transported to the local hospital alert and conscious. No further details have been released.
