Washington, DC – Three metro lines won’t use new rail cars

0

Riders on the Blue, Orange and Silver Metro lines won’t see use of the new 7000 Series rail cars Metro received last month. General Manager Paul Wiedefeld said the new rail cars cannot navigate a steep curve on a part of the tracks shared by all three lines. The problem is that the part of the car that draws power from the third rail can raise up about a quarter of an inch off the track, causing the entire train to automatically shut down. Wiedefeld said he does not think the problem is long-term and that analysis of data collected by Metro will allow them to find a solution to the problem in the next few days. The new train cars are currently only running on the Red, Green and Yellow lines.
