Washington, DC – Obama briefed on UK vote to leave EU

According to a White House official, only President Barack Obama is being kept up to date on developments from the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union. Obama is expected to speak with Prime Minister David Cameron sometime “over the course of the next day,” the official said. Although Obama had encouraged Britain to stay in the EU, he said the decision was ultimately up to the voters. The president was briefed about the vote while he was in San Francisco, the night before he was to address a group of aspiring entrepreneurs at Stanford University.
