The male eagle at the National Arboretum, Liberty, left his nest Thursday morning at 6:12 a.m. “It was a perfect launch and very intentional,” said Julia M. M. Cecere, spokeswoman for the American Eagle Foundation, in a news release. Liberty’s dad, “Mr. President,” took off from the nest a few seconds later. Liberty and his sister, Freedom, hatched at the Arboretum in March of this year. Freedom fledged the nest Sunday, June 5 – her first flight. Video of Liberty’s flight was posted to the American Eagle Foundation’s Facebook page, and already has thousands of views.
