Retail giant Wal-Mart will soon begin construction of a new store on Georgia Avenue in Northwest Washington, D.C. in October, according to The Washington Post. With construction currently underway on another storefront off North Capitol Street, by the end of 2013, the District could have two operating Wal-Marts.

The Post reported that initial plans to open four Wal-Marts in the nation’s capital by the end of 2012 have been scaled back. Residents and community leaders who are dissatisfied with Wal-Mart’s management practices have also pushed back against the retail giant.
