Senate staffer facing federal charge of possession with intent to distribute

According to court documents, a U.S. Senate staffer is facing a federal charge after buying drugs from China with the intent to exchange them for sexual favors. Fred W. Pagan is facing the federal charge of possession with intent to distribute. Pagan works on the staff of Senator Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi). The incident happened on April 9 when the drugs (addressed to Pagan’s home) were detected by customs agents in Ohio. The package held more than a kilo of Gamma-Butyrolactone, on the club scene it is known simply as GBL. Or, more chillingly, ‘coma in a bottle.’ The common, colorless solvent is similar to the date rape drug GHB. A thorough search of Pagan’s Northwest home turned up 181 grams of methamphetamine. Senator Cochran’s office has not responded to requests for a statement.
