Police identify man who was fatally struck
Police have identified a man who was fatally struck by a garbage truck last month in downtown Washington as 41-year-old Jose Flores. Flores, who died at a hospital shortly after he was struck, was hit by a 2007 Mack truck on January 17. Police have not stated whether the driver worked for the district or a private trash hauler. Police have said that Flores was struck in a crosswalk as the driver turned left onto southbound 13th street. The driver continued almost half a block before realizing that they’d hit someone and then called 911. No charges have been filed, however an investigation is still underway. Police are asking anyone with information about Flores or the incident to call 202-727-9099 or text the department’s tip line at 50411.
