Parking garage at Watergate building collapses

The D.C. Fire and EMS Department responded to a “pancake collapse” at the parking garage of the prominent Watergate complex, which has left at least one person imprisoned in the wreckage. Later on Monday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser commented that rescue efforts have turned from search and rescue to recovery. Bowser added that not everyone is accounted for. The Fire Department was dispatched for a structural collapse that had occurred at 10:09 a.m. Preliminary reports say that one person is trapped in the three-story collapse. A vehicle was discovered in the garage with its headlights on, which could potentially be the location of where the person is trapped, but at the moment can not immediately be confirmed. One non-life-threatening injury has been confirmed, and that person is now in the hospital. The fire department has no idea how long it will take to save the trapped individual, but is pulling more resources to the scene such as K9 units and responders from the local Montgomery county.
