Obama says King’s dream has been partly met

President Barack Obama is holding himself up as a symbol of the dream King envisioned, but he also believes that there is still work to be done. The president pointed to the nation’s economic disparities as evidence that King’s hopes remain unfulfilled.

On Wednesday, Obama spoke at the Lincoln Memorial for the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington. Using Biblical references, Obama used the refrain, “because they march” as he spoke of the achievements made during the civil rights movement.

Although laws have changed and legislatures have changed, Obama says income inequality, troubled inner cities, and low wages are still apparent as challenges.
