President Obama and Vice President Biden had a lunch meeting at Shake Shack in Dupont Circle on Friday. The meeting was held to promote government-financed work which may be in jeopardy if congress does not act by the end of the summer. Obama and Biden were joined by four of the workers from a $9.1 million Washington reconstruction project underway. Obama has proposed a $302 billion four-year infrastructure spending bill. Half of the bill paid for with existing fuel taxes and user fees while the other half paid for by eliminating corporate tax loopholes. A key senate voted to spend $265 billion on highway projects over the next 6 years, but more legislative work needs to get done before this is passed as a law. The President also used this lunch outing to promote another one of his top policies, raising minimum wage. The President praised Shake Shack for paying employees $10 per hour, even though minimum wage is $7.25.
