After 26 years, sports and sports media columnist Dave McKenna is leaving the Washington City Paper. McKenna was known for his “Cheap Seats” column, which featured offbeat stories and leveled criticism and sports moguls. McKenna became the subject of a $2 million defamation lawsuit earlier in the year from Redskins owner Dan Snyder, over a November 2010 piece that parodied Snyder’s business dealings.
Snyder later dropped his lawsuit. Michael Schaffer, the editor for the City Paper, said the lawsuit was not the reason for McKenna’s departure, but would not elaborate further. McKenna wrote his final column for the City Paper on Friday, while directing another jab against Snyder.
