Man who set himself ablaze on National Mall identified
Chaos continues to run rampant at the nation’s capital as police officials identify the man who died after setting fire to himself on the National Mall Friday.
The badly burned body was identified Monday as 64-year-old John Constantino from Mount Laurel, New Jersey. The bodily harm caused by the flames was so severe that DNA and dental records became the key elements in the identification process.
Police continue to investigate the motives behind the fatal incident in which Constantino covered himself in gasoline from a red canister and set himself ablaze. Locals passing by tried to diminish the flames with their own t-shirts, but their efforts were failed.
Constantino died at a Washington hospital Friday night.
Eye witness, Justice Department lawyer Katy Scheflen, reported that she saw a man with a tripod near the scene of the incident.
“He appeared to be waiting for something to happen. After it happened, he was gone,” Scheflen said.
Police are still unsure whether or not the man with the tripod has ties to the incident.
