Man sentenced for Capitol Hill beatings and robbery

A Maryland man will be serving a prison sentence for a pair of attacks last summer, which included the brutal baseball bat beating of a Capitol Hill man.

Twenty-two-year-old Tommy Branch was sentenced to 24 years and six months in prison for the beating of T.C. Maslin and a robbery that occurred in Adams Morgan later that night.

Before Branch was sentenced, Assistant U.S. Attorney for D.C. Thomas Swanton noted how brutal the attack was. “Pieces of his skull cut the surface of his brain,” he said. “They removed seven to eight pieces of skull from his brain.

Maslin was attacked last August shortly after midnight while walking home from a Washington Nationals baseball game. Maslin was struck in the head with a BB gun and then beaten with a baseball bat.
