Majority of residents in D.C. believe Mayor Gray should resign

More than half of the residents in Washington, D.C. say besieged Mayor Vincent Gray should resign. According to a poll published by The Washington Post on Thursday, 54 percent of residents in the nation’s capital say the mayor should resign after evidence surfaced that his 2010 mayoral campaign was corrupted by a massive infusion of unreported cash. The poll of 1,002 adults has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Mayor Gray is also losing support among his political base, with 48 percent of African-Americans saying he should resign. Three D.C. Councilmembers have also called on the mayor’s resignation, after federal court revealed last week that Gray’s 2010 campaign was aided by $650,000 in illicit funds from a prominent government contractor.
