D.C. chose Councilwoman Muriel Bowser for its next mayor, with unofficial counts giving her a 55 percent sweep of the votes. D.C. voters also chose Karl Racine for their first elected Attorney General, and voted in favor of legislation that would legalize small amounts of marijuana for personal use.

The race for Virginia’s Senate seat is projected to be called in favor of Mark Warner (D) over Ed Gillespie(R), with 99 percent votes in at time of reporting. In the House, Barbara Comstock (R-) won with 56.6 percent of the votes in the north of the state, along with Dave Brat (R) for the 7th district with 60.9 percent and former Lt. Gov. Don Beyer (D) with 65 percent. Independent John Vihstadt was elected with 56 percent to the Arlington County Board, the first non-Democrat to ever do so.

Maryland’s next governor will be Larry Hogan (R), who unexpectedly won the race with 53.8 percent of the vote against favorite Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown.
