Hundreds gathered for a wreath-laying ceremony Wednesday morning at Ford’s Theater, to mark the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Speaking to a vast crowd, U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said that his assassination was one of the most tragic and pivotal events in American history. The ceremony began at 7:22 a.m., Lincoln’s official time of death (on April 15, 1865). Among the crowd were local actors in costume, including one man who announced to everyone that President Lincoln had died. Ford’s Theatre Director Paul Tetreault added he is the president of which all others are measured up against. A special wreath was placed across the street from the theater at the steps of the Petersen House (the place where Lincoln died and is now a museum).
