Gray says DC streetcar project will be completed this year

Appearing to put to rest rumors that a project to install streetcars in Southwest DC would be delayed until at least 2014, Mayor Vincent Gray reassured residents at a meeting on Sunday that the plan was still on schedule for completion by the end of the year. He did, however, warn the crowd that once the necessary electric lines were laid and the the cars installed, there would be a further testing period before opening to the paying public.

The streetcars will run along Anacostia, H Street, and Benning Road, providing alternative transportation and hopefully easing congestion.
