Foreclosure rates lower in Washington

Foreclosures among Washington-area homeowners has decreased since January. This also parallels a national decline in foreclosure rates.

Homeowners more than 3 months behind in mortgage payments decreased to 5.35 percent in January. The percentage was just under 6 percent one year ago. Homeowners engaging in some sort of foreclosure fell from 2.37 percent to 2.01 percent.

Nationally, delinquency rates were 6.34 percent in January with foreclosure rates reaching 2.90 percent. Three years ago, delinquency rates were as high as 6.74 percent with foreclosure rates at 2.42 percent.
