DC One of the Nation’s Richest Cities

Washington D.C. and surrounding areas in Alexandria, VA and Arlington VA,  have been highlighted in a new listing of the nation’s most affluent regions. A large contributing factor is the prevalence of government jobs which shields the area from major economic downswings. Among the major factors contributing to the affluence of the D.C. Metro Area is a strong housing market and a below average unemployment rate.

With a medium household income of $87,000, D.C. and it’s nearby Virginia suburbs are well above national averages. The region is also host to a large percentage of citizens holding at least a college degree.
