One of every five employees on the D.C. council payroll earns more than $100,000 yearly, which is more than twice of what the common worker in the District makes, according to The Washington Examiner.

Council chairman Phil Mendleson earns the top salary, which is $190,000 a year. More than 20 council staffers earn over $100,000, while the average salary for staffers is 68,000. The Examiner also reported that the lowest salary of a full-time employee is $30,000, which is made by legislative clerk to Councilmember Jim Graham of Ward 1.
