D.C. taxi drivers have planned a protest today, Wednesday, which may jam traffic in much of downtown D.C. The plan includes a caravan of hundreds of drivers moving in a caravan from East Potomac Park at about 10:30 a.m. to Freedom Plaza by about 11:15 p.m. The protest, similar to one in June, is held to show opposition to new D.C. rules that will allow private driving services to operate in the district permanently. Focused mostly on app-based services like uberX, Lyft and Sidecar, taxi drivers feel these companies have an unfair competitive advantage. Ron M. Linton, chairman of D.C. Taxicab Commission, is expected to make a series of proposals to help “level the playing field,” including an app used by all of the D.C. taxis.
