D.C. Schools become swarmed with younger families

Census reports show that D.C. schools will have to make room for 33,000 more children in the next 5 years. Children 5 years old and younger have been increasing in numbers since 2011.

According to Peter Tatian of the Urban Institute, the boom of young children stems from an increase in young adult families. City schools are questioning whether they can handle the growth, and school programs will have to improve if they are to accommodate larger amounts of children.
