A man is dead and a woman is critically injured after they were rescued from a tragic Northeast rowhouse fire on Sunday. The incident happened at 10:45 a.m. on Eastern Avenue near Riggs Road on the first and second floors of the home. Firefighters were able to knock out the fire and rescue the two people. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he later passed away. The woman was also transported to the same hospital, and is expected to survive. Fire officials say that the rescue effort was difficult due to extreme pack-rat conditions throughout the home. The man and woman’s names have not been publicly released as of yet.
